Harold “Hal” Maurer- 

Hal Maurer passed away August 8th, 2026.

Harold M. was a renowned physician who specialized in pediatric oncology. His tireless dedication and unwavering commitment led him to become an internationally recognized expert in his field. During his illustrious career, he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia for 25 years. In 1998, he took on the mantle of Chancellor at the University of Nebraska's Medical Center with the ambitious goal of building a world-class academic center. His leadership and contributions to cancer research were recognized with numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Children's Oncology Group. Harold M. was also named King of Ak Sar Ben, a prestigious community leadership award in Nebraska. He retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of scientific innovation and medical excellence.

 

In lieu of flowers, due to religious beliefs, we will be passing around a sympathy card at this Friday meeting.
