Secretary Nick Rosenberry Report

Omaha West Rotary Club Secretary Report for May 17, 2019:

This past Friday, Tom Zirba visited from Gunnison Co club. Tom has recently moved to Omaha and is considering joining our club! We also had Larry Johansen from Downtown. We also had two guests. Warren Whitted III brought Paul Larkin and Lori Benton brought Lucas Tieso. Lucas just submitted his application!

For good news, Lori Benton mentioned that our club got a matching grant to help pay for 80 students to attend RYLA. Brad Hess’ daughter just had his first grandchild/grandson. And Matt McKeever wanted to congratulate Kent Templien for being at the meeting. It should also be noted that he drove to the meeting!

Nick closed with a joke and wished everyone a good week.

Last Week at Rotary

Last week Tony Schultz gave the invocation. Brad Rohrig served as Sgt. At Arms. Don Otis served as Cashier and Deirdre Milobar and Warren Whitted III were Greeters. Dick Lerner introduced Tarina Cox- Jones, Principal of Skinner Magnet School introduced our fantastic Skinner Skyhawk winners, Iaya Curry and Kurtis Evans, Jr., and their families.

Paul Harris Recognition

Last week Bonnie Gill recognized Pat Knowles as a Paul Harris Fellow +2 for his donations of $3000 to the Rotary Intl. Foundation. Congratulations and thank you!

Blue Badge

Congratulations to Tony Schultz who received his blue badge from sponsor John Philo last week!

Tree Planting

This Spring—The Urban Nature Alliance and the Arbor Day Foundation are hosting another tree planting event to sustain the tree canopy in Gifford Park neighborhood on Saturday, June 1st between 8:30 am to noon. We want to green and shade the right of ways and will even plant fruit trees for food sourcing in the area. Of course improving air quality is a goal of ours as well.

The neighborhood sits from 38th to 30th Street between Dodge and Cumming Street. All holes will be predug as always for ease of volunteer labor.
