Welcome John Mlarnik!
Last week Matt McKeever introduced us to new member, John Mlarnik.   John L. Mlnarik is a California Licensed Attorney, the founder of The Mlnarik Law Group, Inc. and current president and CEO of Go Legal, Inc.

Before becoming a lawyer, John grew up on a small farm in Cuming County, Nebraska and attended grade school at St. Wenceslaus in Dodge, Nebraska. He moved to Omaha to attend Creighton Prep where he graduated in 1996 and went on to Santa Clara University to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in English.   John was the valedictorian of his law school class at the Lincoln Law School of San Jose, and most recently obtained an LLM in Taxation from Washington University in St. Louis.

When the pandemic shut down schools and sports in in California, John, his wife Kristen and their three kids, JT, Amelia and Paulina moved to their home in Omaha.  Kristen and John both enjoy working from home. JT enjoys playing baseball and is a freshmen at Prep. Amelia is in 7th grade and likes basketball and track.  Paulina is in 5th grade, enjoys track and dance.   Welcome, John!

Ava Hollingsworth, Millard North

Describe how you participate in a group.

I recently obtained the position of Vice President of Leadership for my high school DECA chapter. This role has allowed me to connect with other chapter leaders across the state, furthering my leadership development and service to my chapter. This year, we have planned numerous volunteer opportunities at MNHS and have increased membership within our chapter. As the VP of Leadership for DECA, I was able to collaborate with Children's Saving Institute (CSI) and help organize a wonderful community event for children in the foster care system. Touch A Truck is an extremely large free outdoor event with all types of Trucks, Emergency Vehicles and even a Helicopter. Over 3,000 kids and families come for the opportunity to explore vehicles they may have never seen before, play free activities and games as well as free giveaways. I set up all of the high school volunteers from my school and distributed their volunteer assignments. I was responsible for watching over children while they played in the bouncy castles along with making sure everyone on my team was alert and performing their duties successfully.
Greeters/Invocators needed
We are need of volunteers to invocate (can be on Zoom or in-person) and greet members (online and in-person) for each week's meeting.  Please consider volunteering for a date. Thank you.

Rotary Leadership Institute
Please contact Nicki at the email below if you'd like to attend.

Engage and empower members . . .
Energize and strengthen your Rotary Club . . .
Provide Leadership Development for Members . . .
Learn about Rotary and have fun!

That is the Rotary Leadership Institute experience!

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a facilitated program with active participation - not lecturing. Topics important to Rotary and Rotary Clubs such as Effective Service Projects, Membership Engagement, and understanding The Rotary Foundation are explored. You will discuss real challenges and exchange ideas.

Sign up yourself - you will be a more effective leader for your Rotary Club.

Nominate members and they will naturally become more engaged because they will have a richer Rotary experience.

RLI is for everyone - Leadership is not a position, it is action.

Since we have not been able to hold RLI sessions in person, we looked into online options.

We have been invited to partner with Rotary District 5520 (New Mexico and a few clubs in Texas). They have scheduled a Part 1 RLI session as follows:

Saturday, May 1
8:15 AM - 2:30 PM Central Time
There are 2 breaks during the day
There is no cost - they will send materials by email
Space is limited - please let me know ASAP if you have members wanting to register

Since this is not in our district, we may hear of different challenges and opportunities. Also their District Governor is quite involved in the RLI sessions. But one of the things that we value about RLI is sharing ideas - learning about other Clubs and Districts.

RLI is not a repeat of other training available through Rotary and is not position specific.

Testimonial from a recent participant: RLI was a great opportunity to explore Rotary - really learn about this vast organization. This is the first time I truly understood that Rotary was not just about my Club - it extends beyond to other communities, states and the world. I feel that I can truly help my club with programs now that I have participated in RLI.
