Nick Rosenberry filled in as Secretary last week and we enjoyed some St. Patrick's Day fun with Mike Kelly and Judy Sealer.
Omaha West Rotary Club Secretary Report for March 13, 2020:
This past Friday, we still a had a great meeting in spite of all that is going on in the world. We had three visiting Rotarians, Judy Sealer (Suburban), Larry Johansen (Downtown), and Nick Eastland (Suburban).
For good news, Dan Ferris recognized Martie Cordaro for being honored with The George Brett Award for Commitment at the ALS association Mid-America Chapter. Martie then got up and spoke a little about the organization and some of the good work that they do. Gail Veitzer then shared a story about how she brought dinner to a friend who is battling cancer and reminded everyone to just do something nice instead of asking what they can do. Gail was inspired to do this from a recent Facebook post from Martie! Finally, Maryssa Brown wanted to announce that her company is just 90 days from moving into a new facility!
Nick closed with a joke and wished everyone a good week!
Last week Yolanda Hoffman introduced us to new member Zane Parkhurst. Zane grew up in Western Nebraska on a cattle ranch southwest of Valentine. After graduating from high school, he moved to Lincoln and began his college career at UNL. During his time in Lincoln, he met his wife, Anna, at their church, and they were married in 2015. Since then, Zane & his growing family have lived a majority of their time in Omaha, with Zane beginning his career in banking in 2016.
Zane worked at two other banks previously, and is now a Commercial Portfolio Manager at ACCESSbank. He works primarily with small businesses, assisting them with any of their banking needs, with a special emphasis on loans. He has a passion for helping small business owners, and seeks to add as much value as possible to the Omaha community that these business owners love and serve.
When not at work, Zane enjoys being involved in his church at Lifegate, watching Husker football, spending time with his wife and 3 children, and playing as much golf as time will allow. Welcome, Zane!
Last week Mark Ellsworth introduced us to new member Andrew Simpson. Andy Simpson has been practicing law in Omaha for over a decade. In 2019, he joined the Omaha office of the Goosmann Law Firm. He specializes in M& A and real estate transactions. He, his wife and their children live Elkhorn, where he has been an active member & volunteer at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
As everyone knows restaurants and workers are suffering in this crisis. We encourage you to patronize Champions Club if you will be eating out. They have carryout and delivery available. This is offered to Club members and also to Rotarians. Say you are with Rotary if you call. Also, tip generously!
Due to the current coronavirus situation, we are postponing the Bloody Mary Jazz Fest. When we have a new date to announce, we will honor already purchased tickets or refund them if you are not able to attend. Thank you for your patience.
Thank you to Gretchen Radler/Bloom Companion Care for sponsoring our speaker lunches for the month of March. If you would like to sponsor a month and be featured on our website, newsletter, and at weekly meetings, please contact Jennifer.
