Undesign the Redline

"A virtual tour of the Undesign the Redline exhibit at The Union for Contemporary Art (U-CA)

About this Event

Developed by New York-based organization, designing the WE, the interactive Undesign the Redline exhibit explores the foundations of structural racism and the lingering effects of Redlining in Omaha and across the country.
Rotary members are invited to join this virtual meeting, facilitated by trained tour guides steeped in the history of Omaha and Redlining. Space is limited, but free and open to all who are willing to engage in a deep, critical, and often challenging exploration of this history. This virtual tour will be held (on Zoom) on Thursday, August 27th from 6-8 p.m.

Please register for this event by Monday, August 24th by clicking HERE.  After the close of the registration, U-CA will email the zoom link that will allow individuals to access the virtual tour. Additionally, U-CA will provide a short video that participants are encouraged to watch before participating in the tour.

Virtual tours are offered free of charge. However, this tour would not be possible without the support of our community. A suggested donation of $10 per person, allows U-CA to bring this work an even wider audience. CLICK HERE to donate. THANK YOU!
Resumption of in-person meetings
Last week President Dwayne Brown announced the decision the Board has made regarding in-person meetings.

1.) Timing: In-person meeting at Champions will begin on Friday, August 7th.  We will require sign-ups in advance for all attending no later than noon on Wednesdays.

2.)  Meals: All those attending in-person will be required to pre-register each week. The menu will be available each week in Tuesday's newsletter.  The meal will now be plated and served.  You can still choose meeting only.   You can arrive anytime after 11:15. Meals will be served at noon.  Serving meals at the same time will ensure food temperature and quality.   Champions employees will be masked and gloved.

4.) Seating will be somewhat socially distanced.   We will be spreading out tables, and limiting the number of people at each table.  We will ask that you remain at your table for the meeting.

5.)  Masks: Greeters will meet you at the entrance and offer you hand sanitizer when you enter. We ask everyone to wear masks arriving and departing.  You can remove your mask to eat when you are seated.

6.) Badges will put out for those registered to attend a meeting. We will ask you then to keep your badge with you for the foreseeable future. (Leaving it in your car is the best way not to lose it!). We are trying to minimize contact and having everyone keep his/her own badge helps with that.

7.) Attendance:  Attendance requirements are not in force, however, we will recognize those who have achieved 100% attendance regardless of whether that is online or in-person.  Since we don't have a good way of tracking this, it will be on the honor system.     There will be no signing in for attendance.

8.) Payments: In order to minimize risks, we are going to move away from handling cash at Rotary meetings.  We will ask that you either pay for your meeting online or purchase a lunch ticket.  You can also bring a check made out for the correct amount to a meeting but you must still register in advance.   This will include fines and good news. There is a link on the home page top right corner to pay these- you are on the honor system- paying fines helps support our club operations.

In summary, you are important to Omaha West Rotary and we will meet you wherever you are with health and safety concerns. We understand that not everyone can or will want to attend in-person meetings.  For that reason, we are investing in technology and soliciting volunteers to bring you the best hybrid meeting experience.  We hope you will share with those you know the value of Rotary in your life and business. We hope to use the hybrid meetings as a recruiting tool, allowing people to participate while traveling or when work or other situations do not allow for in-person attendance.

We look forward to seeing you in person or online!
