Last week Kaleb Duncan introduced us to new member Lydia Johnson.  Lydia is originally from Columbus, Nebraska.  Lydia graduated in 2023 from UNO with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate and Land Use Economics. This is serving her well at Sage Capital Real Estate as a Commercial Real Estate Associate.

 

Lydia is an active community volunteer.  In a remarkable initiative called the 'Hunger Farm' project, Lydia donated an impressive 1,080 pounds of fresh vegetables, valued at $2,200, over three consecutive summers. This generous act helped provide essential access to fresh produce for those experiencing food insecurity in Columbus.  She has been on several church mission trip and was active in  Alpha Xi Delta raising funds for charities.   

 

In her free time, Lydia enjoys nature and Chamber events. Welcome, Lydia!

 

 

Last week Ron Niederhaus reintroduced us to returning member Rob Walker.   Rob is the CEO/President of Max I. Walker, a dry cleaning and uniform rental business.  Rob was previously a member of our club from 1988 to 2015 and we are thrilled to have him back. 

 

Rob is married to Donna and is very involved in giving back to the community through such initiatives as the Ultra Chic Prom Boutique fundraiser and Bikes for Kids.   Welcome back, Rob!

 

 

Please consider a donation to the Intl. Rotary Foundation during the month of November.   Rotary Foundation funds go around the globe to better the lives of people.   Some of this money comes back to our club in the form of District Grants for local Projects.  You can donate HERE.   $100 annually makes you a Paul Harris Sustaining Member.   You can give $10 a month automatically as well to make the annual goal easy. 

 

We have lots of ways for you to make a difference in the next couple of months.  

 

Career Day: On Tuesday, November 14th, Omaha West Rotary will host a Career Day for about 100 4th and 5th Grade students at Skinner Magnet School.    Rotarians and others representing different professions will discuss their careers with the students from 1-3:30. 

 

The next Happy Hour will be at the Granary in Ralston on November 9th from 4:30-7 p.m. Mark your calendar! 

 

For Red Badgers who have not yet attended one of these, please mark your calendar for November 10th right after the meeting for an orientation meeting.

 

Dick Sturgeon's wife, Jeanie, moved back to Madonna on Monday of last week and seems to have stabilized, she is doing her third day of therapy’s today, which is huge milestone. She overall has made some great progress in spite of some setbacks. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
