Omaha West did better than best in holding the 69^th High School Senior Recognition Luncheon at Champions Run Country Club last Friday. We had a terrific group in attendance; almost 250 Rotarians and Guests. We honored 36 outstanding High School seniors who had been selected by their schools for a balance of academics, extracurricular activity, and community service. 

 

Our guest speaker was Glenn Van Ekeren who made a compelling speech challenging these young people to take some risks, appreciate what they have and seek out a fulfilling life. Thanks to Suzan Rohrig for recruiting Glenn. Suzan also provided a fine invocation and led us in the pledge.  Rich Secor provided an explanation of Rotary and our Rotary Foundation.

 

Caleb Yeh, a senior from Millard North, delivered a fine student speech. We presented each student with a gift consisting of a personalized plaque, a very nice Rotary pen and a gift card.  Our committee outdid itself.  Thanks go to Rod Anderson, Stacy Auman, Gary Bren (and Gretchen who pinch hit for Gary for a day) Bob Fell, Shawn Garza, Spencer Head, Bev Karrer, Chris Krueger, Dick Lerner, Maggie Mullin, Ron Niederhaus, Suzan Rohrig, Lindsey Vande Hoef and Kathy Wawers. 

 

 

Rotary maintains 10 libraries in North Omaha filling them every 4-6 weeks.  If you have any used books or want to volunteer to stock them, contact Bonnie Gill.
