Carol Blood
Carol Blood brings energy, vision, and a lifelong commitment to community service to her role as Executive Director of Omaha City Sprouts. A proud Nebraskan—born in McCook and raised in rural Adams County—Carol’s deep roots in the state have shaped her passion for strengthening communities and expanding opportunities for all. Her public service spans more than 15 years, including eight years in the Nebraska Legislature (2016–2024) and eight years on the Bellevue City Council (2008–2016). Throughout her tenure, she championed practical, people‑focused solutions and built a reputation as a tireless advocate for positive change. Her decades of volunteerism further reflect her belief that strong communities grow from active, engaged citizens. In 2005, Carol founded Blood Communications, helping businesses and nonprofits thrive through strategic planning, feasibility assessments, corporate training, and business development. Her extensive experience in nonprofit leadership and community-building continues to guide her work today. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carol is an avid learner and a passionate grower of native plants. She loves tending her own vegetables and sharing the harvest—an enthusiasm that aligns perfectly with the mission of City Sprouts. Since stepping into the Executive Director role in January 2025, Carol has led a dedicated team of eight in advancing City Sprouts’ mission: cultivating healthy communities and building sustainable, equitable food systems through urban agriculture, education, and youth employment. Her leadership is helping City Sprouts grow its impact, deepen its roots, and inspire the next generation of growers and changemakers.
