West Rotary has pledged to raise $9,900 for the Annual Fund, $3,168 for the PolioPlus Fund and 100% of our members giving some amount to the Rotary Foundation. Your donation puts us closer to those goals. Carol Gendler has again generously pledged $5,000. Fifty members who donate $100 or more will have an additional $100 credited towards their Paul Harris Fellow. Send your donations in soon to be among those 50 members.
Your Rotary Foundation donations in conjunction with your West Omaha Rotary Foundation donations at work - Projects the past three years funded jointly from your donations to The Rotary Foundation and the West Omaha Rotary Foundation are noted below.
Purchased iPads for our literacy program at the Skinner Magnet Elementary School ($1,385 from West Omaha Rotary Foundation and $1,800 from Rotary District Grant)
Facilitated printing of "Parent Guides" for parents of a child who has reported experiencing abuse ($1,510 from West Omaha Rotary Foundation and $1,500 from Rotary District Grant)
In conjunction with Omaha Downtown Rotary funded "Victory of Violence," the creation of website pages to provide a resource for people needing information and help for sexual and domestic abuse issues. ($1,500 from West Omaha Rotary Foundation, $1,500 Omaha Downtown Rotary Foundation and $3,000 from Rotary District Grant.)
Participated in a multi-club "Outreach" District Grant to provide food to local non-profit organizations. West Rotary directed their donations to the Siena/Francis House Homeless Shelter (West Omaha Rotary Foundation provided $1,000, Suburban Rotary Foundation $1,500, Southwest Omaha Night Rotary Club $500 and District Grant funds $3,000)
West Rotary will participate in the "Outreach" District Grant again this Rotary year. ($1,000 from the West Omaha Rotary Foundation, $1,500 from Suburban Rotary and $500 from the Southwest Omaha Night Rotary Club and $3,000 District Grant funds.)
The Rotary Foundation makes good use of your donations. When you donate to The Rotary Foundation the funds are invested for three years to cover operating expenses. Three years after funds are donated the District receives one half of the funds to be used for grants that fund local and international humanitarian projects, scholarships, and activities through grants applied for from clubs in District 5650. The other half of the funds donated provides funding for the highest priorities around the globe to support peace efforts, provide clean water and sanitation, support education, grow local economies, save mothers and children, and fight disease. A great example is the Rotary effort to eradicate Polio.
12/1 John V. Morey; 12/7 Warren Whitted, 12/9 Bob Fell; 12/11 Brad Johansen; 12/17 Janet Wallace; 12/18 Bob Lovgren; 12/30 Butch Ethington
POLIO ERADICATION – We are asking you to donate $32 during the month your birthday is recognized. The District has set $32 per person as a giving goal for PolioPlus. Your donation will be given to The Rotary Foundation in your name for PolioPlus. Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of polio for over 30 years. The PolioPlus program helps Rotary fund operational costs, such as transportation, vaccine delivery, social mobilization, and training of health workers, and support surveillance activities. Your donation can help "End Polio Now."
Gretchen Radler, Vocational Service Committee Chair, will be contacting members to schedule a vocational talk. We would like to schedule two vocational talks each month. Your talk should be 2-3 minutes in length and will give you an opportunity to share information about your profession, yourself and your family. Please say yes when asked to schedule your vocational talk. We look forward to learning more about our fellow Rotarians.
