Executive Director, Nebraskans for the Arts
“The Role & Impact of the Arts in Nebraska”

Doug Zbylut is a native of Nebraska, living in Omaha. Since 2014, Doug has been Executive Director for the Nebraskans for the Arts (NFTA), an arts advocacy organization. During his tenure, Doug has focused on promoting the arts and arts education to policymakers at the local, state and federal levels. Before joining NFTA, Doug served as Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities in Omaha. He also served as the Deputy Director of the Omaha Children’s Museum before working in the private sector with a high tech firm. Doug started his career in higher education, working in grants offices at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Creighton University. Doug received his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master’s in Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Last Week at Rotary Oct. 13, 2017
Last week, our President Nuzhat Mahmood presided the meeting. Don Otis gave the Invocation. Gail Veitzer and Dwayne Brown served as Greeters while Manny Paz was Cashier. Mark Ellsworth was Sgt At Arms. Rana Scarlett-Johnson was Chair of the Day and she introduced our speaker Millard Public Schools Superintendent Jim Sutfin, who spoke to us in great detail about the upcoming levy override vote in the Millard School District.

Announcements: Manny announced the Keep Omaha Beautiful project; Suburban Rotarian David announced the Monster Mash project; Suzan reminded everyone about the Scan, Shred & Save Party; Susan updated us about Career Day; and Kim invited us to Soup Supper. Details of these events can be found on our Club website calendar.

Matt McKeever Secretary's Report - October 13, 2017

We received a visit from Ron Bailey from the Maaseik Rotary Club in Belgium.  Two Suburban Rotarians, David Kutler and Nick Eastland, joined us as guests. Kim Kuhle introduced guest Julie Shald of Farm Bureau.  Don Otis introduced guests Rebecca Miller of Fix-Lexia and Sally Otis.  Deb Neary introduced OPS Board of Education Member Marque Snow.  Matt reminded everyone about the Ray Barr Loud Outfit Contest at the October 27 meeting. Stacy Auman was fined for an article.  All Rotarians who did not wear their Rotary pins were fined.   A number of Rotarians shared good news.  Matt told his only Friday the Thirteenth joke.

Suzan is reminding those who signed up for the Scan, Shred & Save Party that it will be at Champions this Friday, the 20th at 11:30 AM. It will be fun to see and read historical club documents created before you were born!
 
 
 
Manny Paz, Ecology Committee Chair
Keep Omaha Beautiful is working with the City of Omaha to host a FREE Used Tire Collection Event which allows citizens to recycle their tires for free, minimizing illegal dumping in our city. This free tire collection event is scheduled for Saturday, October 21 from 8am to 3pm at Levi Carter Park. The event will be held in the boat ramp parking lot at Levi Carter Park (near the corner of East Carter Boulevard and North 12th Street East). Tires collected at this event will be recycled.  For more info please call 402.546.3610.
Kim Kuhle, Family of Rotary Chair
Kim Kuhle and husband Mike Markus are hosting a Family of Rotary event, Soup Supper featuring Gumbo, Black Bean, French Onion, and Gazpacho on Oct. 21st, 6:00 PM - until whenever, at 17332 Edna St., Omaha, NE 68136.  Kim's and Mike's home is green. The event has no cost to you so bring your entire family! Kim's neighborhood parking lot can accommodate many cars on 173rd and Harrison streets. Please park next to the swimming pool on 173rd St. Attire is casual. If you have not already signed up, please RSVP to Kim at kim.kuhle1@gmail.com.
